Responsibility and Freedom

When we accept responsibility for our thoughts and actions, we set off a chain reaction. We are declaring to the universal mind that we are willing to accept our faults and rejoice in our triumphs. If something goes awry we look to ourselves for the problem rather than blaming others, therefore we give out the message that if we own the problem, we also own the solution. If we hold someone else responsible for a problem, we then depend on them for a solution. The former is energy giving, the latter energy draining. By taking responsibility for a problem we are open to finding solutions that will bring peace of mind, by blaming others we are igniting worry and doubt because energetically we are saying that we have no control over the situation. The road to responsibility may be a long one for those who never learned it as a child or young adult. This is not responsibility for younger siblings, chores or homework; it is self-responsibility, knowing right from wrong and owning our faults as well as accepting compliments in equal measure. Extreme behaviour comes from a lack of measured response to a situation, it is viewing a thing from emotional reaction rather than rational thought. Learning to channel our emotions in an appropriate way avoids their escape in a heightened situation which may lead to quarrel and dispute. This can lead to a disproportionate response to something that is triggered by suppressed emotions.

By using our inner-directive, we have a compass to guide us through change. When the mind slows down, the heart opens and everything becomes clear. Disturbance in our minds and turbulence in our heart obscures our inner-directive and we cannot tell in what direction we must proceed. Our true self is the unhindered, unblemished potential that came into the world. True self is deeper than flesh, it is a wholesome nourishment in the seed of the individual, propagated by truth and nature. A soul on fire, brave and true, breaks through the tough shell of mental inertia to become the exact fruit of its original design. We do not go in search of our true self, it is already with us, healing work is tending to the seed, encouraging it to germinate and cast off the husk of conditioning and unconscious beliefs. Taking responsibility is an important step towards realising our true potential. We must hold ourselves accountable for our thoughts, words and actions, which negatively impact on others, and on ourselves. Every damning word of our inner-critic, toward ourselves or others, shrinks the fulfilment of potential. The seed of potential must be nourished by daily mindfulness to expand awareness.

The War Against Ourselves

As we enter a further three weeks of lock down in a national and global effort to halt the spread of coronavirus, people are beginning to wonder if there is any end in sight. Loneliness and isolation are having an impact on people’s mental health, so too is close proximity to spouses, children, parents and siblings for longer periods of time that in normal circumstances. The lonely, long to be near friends and family, and those in family groups or dysfunctional relationships, long to be left alone. Being alone with our own thoughts and the shadows they throw across the mind is a daunting prospect, something I can attest to but so too, is living in close quarters with a person who is controlling and manipulative. In both scenarios we must either face up to our thoughts and feelings about the situation or be consumed by them. The war against the virus has become the war against ourselves.

One thing I know for sure, life is transient and this current situation will pass. It is our underlying thoughts and belief systems that can leave us feeling victimised and overwhelmed. Depression casts a long shadow across our inner light duping us to believe life is unfair and hopeless. But despair not, there is a way through the darkness. When I found myself in such hopeless circumstances eight years ago, surrounded by damning thoughts, which in turn attracted hostile living conditions, I realised no one could save me but myself. Having a victim mentality only gives others power over you, particularly a controlling personality. No matter what the intentions, whether to exploit or to advise, giving someone control over your emotions leads to high emotional anxiety and mental agitation. The way out for me was by owning my emotions, the anger, the grief, the guilt and the despair. The underlying unfelt emotions fuelled a barrage of difficult thoughts which in turn darkened my view of myself and those around me. Owning my feelings, no matter how painful, led to a release from my emotional and mental imprisonment, which in turn set me free from a toxic living arrangement.

Depression goes undetected in many people, it is only when there is a threat to life that it is diagnosed. The unfortunate effect of depression in some cases is the alienation of family and friends. In many cases, the person is unaware of what is happening to their mental and emotional state, their fear of pushing away loved ones causes them to bury their feelings. Tragically it is only after a suicide attempt, the gravity of mental illness is highlighted to family members.

In many ways, we are all trying to flee from our damning thoughts through our busy lifestyles. When that is suspended due to the current worldwide pandemic, we have nowhere to run. We can try to fill the extra time with chores, gardening, Netflix, alcohol and food. As the time drags on into further weeks of lockdown and possibly months, anyone affected by dark thoughts and anxiety will have to face the cause. The cause is unfelt emotions lurking in the subconscious from past fears and trauma.

Set your intention for healing and awareness, for mental and emotional well being. Spend quality time alone, try not to avoid loneliness, rather try to understand why you are lonely. Listen to the inner voice as you would a loved one. Putting someone else at the centre of your world through dependence leaves you weak and vulnerable. It takes time to change a habit of a lifetime. Take small steps toward your liberation, by sitting for ten to fifteen minutes each morning in a meditative state. Thoughts will come and go, some mildly looking for attention, others aggressively trying to take you away from inner peace. Let them be. Sink deeper into the feeling body, feel where the sensation arises in your body, this is the fuel that causes thought. Be with the emotion as long as you can, by giving full attention to the feeling it will be released. This may be experienced as deep sobs or a sharp sensation, either way by releasing the emotion, it can no longer fuel shadow thoughts.

By putting ourselves at the centre of our world we can best be available to others. Be kind to yourself. How you treat yourself sets the bar for how others treat you. In the words of Ram Dass, ‘We are all just walking each other Home.’

Awareness

During unhappy periods of your life, you can become obsessed with the past and what the future holds. Little or no attention is given to the present moment. The past is constantly in your thoughts because it holds memories of emotions yet to be released. The present is experienced as a stepping stone to some future time when you achieve happiness. Most of your mental energy is focused on the past and projection to the future. This energy is used to fuel an illusory time frame when hopes and wishes are fulfilled. This mode of thought avoids the present moment. It is only by being fully aware of this moment that you can access truth and receive clarity on your current situation. Through presence of mind you allow feelings to be expressed.

IQL titles 1 Feelings are energy in motion in the body. Emotional pain is energy seeking release. The default setting for the unconscious mind uses emotional pain to fuel repetitive thought patterns of victim hood and blame. If you quieten the mind for a few moments, through stillness; you can sense turbulent energy in the body. Scan your body from head to toe, see where feeling or sensation arises in your body. As you simply observe energy, without attaching a label to it, the sensation dissolves on its own. Mental activity only serves to define the feeling as hurt, anger, guilt or shame. It is thoughts about the feeling that cause emotional suffering. When you resist a feeling and accompanying thoughts, mental agitation increases. Awareness connects you with the true source of energy. Through awareness, thoughts are observed without attachment. The source of love is within you, accessed through awareness. You can connect to awareness through breathing. Simply focus on the breath as it rises and falls in your chest.  At first, thoughts may demand your attention but through perseverance the mind starts to quieten. Thoughts can be like a runaway train, depleting your energy. It takes clear intention and focus to enter a place of awareness. In the calm oasis of stillness, you encounter your true being. Awareness proceeds from true being; it cannot be achieved through a mind made self or ego.

Ascension of Consciousness

Emotional congestion thwarts love, brooding and snarling, it lives in the shadows of fear, vengeance and betrayal. This towering babel of infractions of love, finds its foundations in the souls of men, its walls in his heart, and its smeared windows in his confused mind.

Attachment to form is the architect of pain. This multi-storey self trembling under the seismic activity of a fraught imagination and eventually crumbles beneath its igneous layer of egotism.

Life is governed by inexorable conditions. The world springs from the nature of our soul. In its pure state, the soul is fluid and transient. In its unnatural state, it is in the stasis of self, buttressed by beliefs and expectation, providing the soundtrack and narration for its masquerade as it parades through the apparent world. Desire is the float that carries the self aloft but fear halts its procession.

Fear is the harbinger that warns the soul of moral decline. Fear demands the penalty for transgressions are paid. Progress of the soul is not by linear procession, but by ascension of state. The egoist self lives in ignorance of this from human existence to human existence until the monolith of pain becomes too cumbersome to bear. The conditions of egoist thought and action lie within the soul. The ego subscribes to birth and death, it is governed by time. The soul is governed by the Law of eternal Being. The soul must pay for infractions caused by the wilful ego upon the whole. It is aided in this by the Law of Cause & Effect.

The world mirrors the soul’s state of consciousness. The ego is ignorant of this and projects its faults onto others. The truth living in the soul, known or unknown, is of unity. All life is one. Therefore, all humans are shareholders of transgressions, blame and vice. We are here because we are liable in making amends for our past actions that have imparted upon the whole. When the soul becomes aware of its reason for being in human form, its ascension of state accelerates and its moral nature overthrows the false master.

However, this metamorphosis is not without suffering. The mirror of truth is an unwelcome intruder to the ego, while it is the window of freedom for the soul. The inlet of vice must exit through the outlet of suffering. Denial of feeling the effect of wrongdoings eventually overpowers the capricious ego and turns the finger of the projectionist firmly inward. The ascension of the soul marks the decline of ego. The ego’s surrender marks the maturity of the soul indicating its maturity and awareness of its union with all life. Then the star seed of human consciousness shines brightly amongst the firmament of men so that the performance can match his promise.

Emotions are the mind's  best counselor

Feelings on a low vibration must be released through the body. Waiting for feelings to erupt through egoic stories aggravates the feeling body into anger and aggression. The feeling body is the true counselor for the mind. If a thought is disharmonious with the universe, the feeling body will correspond to that.
We live in the residual outcome of feeling and thought. How we feel and think now determines what we are going to experience in physical reality.
The physical reality that occurs now is the outcome of previous thoughts and feelings. We must accept what is now. We cannot change it. But we can shift our attitude and feeling so that the physical reality we are moving into improves. The more one focuses on feeling good the more good things come. Continue reading
